  1. Our patrons want search function for the list of their favorites and historic loans...

I agree that it's too complicated to search what they read a year ago by scrolling all the way down to check.

  2. Add option for user to have his/hers account deleted

With the upcoming EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) the right to be forgotten will be imperative. We suggest that an "Delete my account" button is added to the My account space in Primo.

  3. Add Library pre-filter to Primo VE Advanced Search

It would be helpful if users could pre-scope their search to a particular library in the advanced search, rather than waiting to filter with the post-search facets.

  4. Ability to share favorites

We'd like to see a more robust favorites area, with more options for configuration. One thing in particular we'd like would be the ability to organize lists of favorites, then to share those with other users. This has been brought up by librarians who'd like to work on lists collaboratively and then share those lists with students or instructors.

  5. Allow Primo to comply with the "force password change on next login" setting in Alma for internal users

Alma has the internal user setting "Force password change on next login". Primo does not comply with this setting, so there is no way to force patrons to change their passwords in Primo. This is problematic, because our internal user accounts have a very insecure default password initially set for them. Please consider implementing this feature for Primo

  6. Combining searches from search history into a new search

My colleagues misses the functionality from our previous discovery system to combine searches in the search history list into a new search in an easy way, e.g. S1 AND S3

  7. Email results in new interface - records too long and not currently configurable

With the new UI, the emailing function appears to have been altered from a minimised style that we have in the classic primo to a very full view in the new one.

    - in the Classic UI, indeed, the different formats have been used when user was sending results by email:
    (a) sending from Brief View or Full View creates a long version of formatted content
    (b) sending from eShelf creates a brief list of formatted content

However, in both cases, there is no configuration available as to define which fields should be part of the format, this is currently…

  8. Only show "starts with" for relevant fields

Currently, the "starts with" functionality is only available for title searching. There are already some posts here about adding it for other fields, like call number and subject, which I support. This post is about the current behavior though. If I choose to search by another field, such as author/creator or subject, then the next dropdown allows me to choose "starts with" even though it's not available, and it immediately switches to a title search. I'd prefer that, if a user has selected a field other than Title, that "starts with" just wouldn't show up at all. If the task…

  10. Campus Activated Subscriber Access for better off-campus and mobile access to full text

Google Scholar is rolling out a programme with publishers for easier access to full-text subscription content. They call this Campus Activated Subscriber Access (CASA). The description from the latest press release says "CASA makes note of a user’s institutional affiliation when they access content from an authorized on-campus location, and then enables continued access to their library’s journal and book holdings from home or when using a device not connected to the institution’s network".

The way this could work with Primo is by setting a cookie on the user's device when they are on campus and access Primo. If their…

  11. Ignore call number prefix (subfield k) when indexing for Call Number Browse

Primo's browse search "By Library of Congress Call Numbers" includes the call number prefix (holdings record field 852 $k) when generating the browse list. At UGA, we use that prefix for oversize volumes (Folio, Ff), and for a variety of branch locations, special statuses and shelving areas (Juv, Ref, Vet Med, etc.).

As a result, any holdings with a prefix do not show up alongside holdings in the same call number range, essentially hiding many titles from patrons interested in browsing the shelf list. (This would be an issue for staff as well, but shelf list browsing works correctly in…

  12. configure the order of the holdings records in the GetIt tab

It would be very useful to have an option to configure the order of the holdings records to be displayed in Primo (e.g. according to the loan period) as opposed to the current situation where the order is random.

  13. Add a search results permalink to the New UI results page

When we do searches in Primo for patrons, we often want to be able to send them to a list of results, rather than a specific item.

There is a jquery customization the classic UI created by Western Washington University at https://www.orbiscascade.org/blog/9/?bid=121

However, that customization does not work on the new UI, and requires users to be able to create a SQL database to store redirects, and to store files on a local server.

Ideally, search results permalink functionality could be built into Primo's New UI.

The attached screenshot shows the WWU search results permalink in action.

  14. proximity search operator for fulltext search in Primo Central

A strong argument for a discovery index compared to a bibliographic database is the incorporation of full text in the index. I have not found an actual number or a percentage how many Primo Central collections are full text searchable. But we all know: it is significant. Since this year all Primo Central searches will always expand to full text.
    https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Knowledge_Articles/Primo_Central_Full-Text_Searching

The most powerful feature for full text search is proximity.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proximity_search_(text)

Aleph was able to support proximity for small hitsets
    https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Aleph/Knowledge_Articles/Proximity_doesn't_work_for_larger_results.

... and Summon has a proximity feature
    https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Summon/Product_Documentation/Searching_in_The_Summon_Service/Search_Features/Summon%3A_Boolean%2C_Phrase%2C_Wildcard_and_Proximity_Searching#proximity

Proximity search is currently not supported nor planned in…

  15. Add autocomplete to embedded search tile/box

When setting up a Primo search tile or search box to embed in a library's website it would be great if it were possible to enable autocomplete in the embedded search box/tile so that it works the same way as it does in the Primo interface.

This would help library users enormously.

  16. "Did you mean" has no option for selecting, "No."

A librarian submitted the following question:

"If you do a search in the catalog for Andrew Lyght (he's an artist), you get the message "Do you mean Andrew Light?" and a whole bunch of results that have lyght spelled "light". There is no option to say "No, I mean Lyght."

I think the Google-like functionality of "did you mean..." is a good
direction to go in, but there needs to be an option to respond to that question, especially when what the catalog is guessing is wrong. Overall, this isn't a helpful implementation as it currently works."

  17. Secondary sorting of records in the results list

Primo is designed to sort the results list by one parameter only (relevancy, title etc.).
Currently, it is not possible to define a secondary sort. Thus records with the same ranking will appear in no particular order.
It would be beneficial to be able to configure a secondary and third sort options. For example, first sorting by Relevancy, secondary by Publishing Year and third by Title.

  18. new option/checkbox: "expand my results with synonyms"

The Primo Search Engine includes synonyms by default to expand the result list. This often leads to results which are fuzzy and hardly explainable.

Instead of including synonyms by default we want to see an option to include synonyms by explicit user decision.

This option ("expand my result using synonyms") could be included into the facets section or should be visible close to the search button.

  19. German search character conversion - combined vowels representing umlauted letter as well as umlauted letter

In German, an "umlaut" over a letter can be represented with the two dots over the letter, or as a vowel combination, e.g. Anfänge or Anfaenge. If the user searches any of these (or just the un-umlauted letter), we'd like them to see results that contain all the variants.

Ex Libris investigated the configurations for character conversion in searching/indexing, and suggested filing a Primo enhancement:

" it is not currently possible to convert ü into u and also into ue. This would be an enhancement request. "

Which we will do, but wanted to float it here also.

  20. Add 'search' feature in e-shelf

Users should be able to search for references in their eShelf lists based of any <search> field contents in the PNX and wherever the references may be (not sensitive to folders).
