How can we improve Alma?

  1. Add a checkout widget that can be accessed from the desktop

    The most common thing we need to do in Alma is to check out books, but we need to train our students and Circ clerks to go to "Manage Patron Services." What about some kind of checkout widget or even an entry in the main Alma menu that actually says "Check out" or "Check in"?

  2. Batch Return in ALMA

    For Stocktake, we're required to do a batch return upon collection of barcodes. Unfortunately, there is no batch return feature in ALMA. It would really be helpful to have a batch return as feature or as a job so that it could cut down the hassle.

  3. When editing a normalization, merge or indication rule there is only an option to preview and save. There should also be a "save as" option

    What happens now is user edits his rule, is happy with it, then he must copy it to his mouse, create a new rule, and paste it into the new rule. A "save as" would be much more logical. User would do "save" as he does today to change the existing rule, and "save as" to save his changes to a new rule.

  4. Pop up note for item with a status

    I would like to see a pop up note when an item is in Missing status. We add additional notes in Statistical fields to track missing items. It would be good to be able to clear those at the point of scan in instead of having to investigate. In fulfillment you don't know if you scanned in a "missing" item.

  5. change run time of "Notifications - Send Due Date Reminders" job to 8am instead of 10am

    The job "Notification – Send Due Date Reminders" seems to be sending a notice on the day that the item is due. It’s scheduled to run at 10:00am every day so picks up short term loans made that day. We would like the ability to change it to run at 8am or earlier before the Library opens as we do not want people with short hourly type loans getting a reminder

  6. Make Holdings information available in the Job Report

    The Job Report page which can be navigated to via, for example, Monitor & View Imports is useful, but would be better still if data pertaining to imported-in holdings were also added.

    The Physical Items pull-down lists total physical items imported, added and updated; and as the successful maintenance and troubleshooting of issues regarding holdings is arguably as important (to us, at least) as that for bibliographic records and items, it would be appreciated to see similar numerical indications of how successful attempted holdings updates have proven.

  7. Add description field to trial module

    The manage trials module in Alma needs to have a description field available. This would be very useful as it would educate trial participants as to what new product they are evaluating. Right now the only information provided is Title. This new field would also need to be available in the XML for TrialLetter.

  8. Add more options for ILL integration

    Adding ILLiad integration to Alma was welcome but also brings more issues into the system. For example - patrons are shown in their account via Primo that ILL loaned items are not renewable. They are but not via Alma. A customizable message for the Resources sharing library that would display in "My Account" saying "Renewable via ILLiad" would be welcome. We have configured ILLiad to send courtesy notices. Now that we have integrated with Alma patrons get two courtesy and "due today" letters because Alma cannot turn off letters for specific locations.   9. Add timestamp to all date related dimensions in analytics

    Some areas in analytics only have date stamps instead of date+time stamps, so reporting on for example, Events from analytics will only ever bring back the date the event occurred and not the date+time required for auditing.

    We'd like all dimension datestamps to have a version of the timestamp which includes the date+time so that they are useful in working out when a transaction occurred and not just the date it happened. This is good for consistency across analytics data as well.

  10. Ability to see more of the 2 records on the match/merge screen.

    Currently, when manually handling the matches one at a time, the view of the 2 records is only using the upper half of the screen. The ability to scroll each side is great but why not be able to see more of the records by increasing the viewing area? Thank you for considering.

  11. Hyperlink call number.

    While the hyperlinked title is a valuable tool, many of our daily searches necessitate use of of the call number. This is especially true for journals with multiple titles. Hyperlinking the call number would dramatically reduced search time. Being able to 'click through' to all titles linked with a call number would be most useful to our staff.

  12. Allow Z39.50 and other search results to include the barcode

    Alma's APIs need to provide greater flexibility in fields searched. Too often the MMSID must be used but this is not a particularly useful ID as it is internal. It's also not particularly helpful as it does not integrate with other systems like Remote Storage management systems, Bindery, NCIP, and the like. Yet Primo displays the barcode so clearly it's not difficult to pull out of a record.

  13. Ability to add html code/img files to the GES Public Name Field

    I would like the ability to add html code/img files to the GES Public Name Field. Either that or a separate field for adding an icon. I think this would help us "brand" the services we offer through these links.

  14. Retain local linking information following 'Link Local Portfolios to Community' function

    It would be useful if local linking information (parser parameters and static URL overrides) was retained in portfolios when linked to the Community Zone using the 'Link Local Portfolios to Community' function at Collection Service level. Currently, this is not the case and local linking information has to be restored manually to Community Zone-linked portfolios following this process (even though other local information such as coverage date overrides and notes are retained).

  15. Adding the "Assign record to another cataloger" functionality in search results actions links

    We use regularly the 'Assign record to another cataloger' functionality in the MD editor for corrections, for records enhancements, ... But this is unfortunately limited to catalogers roles.
    It would really improve our resource management workflows if this Assign function was made available from search results lists. Other staff roles would so push records in an enhancements flow (such as improve marc records for newly created portfolios, such as indexing tasks, such as apply corrections that don't require having book in hands...). We actually use work orders for some in those tasks but this workflows are not always appropriate and…

  16. ability to add local portfolio to bib directly

    Currently we must go to the alma menu --> add local portfolio and fill out a long form to create a local portfolio.

    The ability to search for a title and add a local portfolio would be much more efficient. Kind of like how we would add an item record.

  17. Add a post-import normalization process option to Import Profile configuration

    Currently, Import Profiles contain a single selection for normalization (Correct the data using). This enhancement would clarify that this process operates on incoming records only pre-load, and would add the ability to select a second normalization process after records are fully loaded and merged.

  18. Improve sort order in configuration lists

    Some configuration lists (e.g. Physical Material Type Descriptions) have a large number of rows and it is extremely time consuming to change the sort order if you want to move something that is near the bottom of the list to near the top of the list.

    It would be great if a sort row number could be entered against a particular row and that row would then be moved to that place in the sort order and all other rows resorted accordingly

    e.g. Physical Material Type Descriptions has 84 rows. If I want to move the value in row 84…

  20. OpenURL resolver pass sid in Resource sharing source field

    It would be useful if the sid that identifies the source of an openURL could be passed into the Source field of the Resource sharing form in Alma. eg sid=google would add google to the Source field.
    This was possible in our previous system and was very useful
