  1. Automatic generation of call numbers

    The call numbers play an important role as source of information for staff and users and in the workflows, that is why we also strongly miss the automatic generation of call numbers (in Aleph the Z311 table "to register the last sequence number assigned for a sublibrary + prefix, so that the next highest number can automatically be assigned when an item record is created"). When we have to do it manually it deeply lowers the efficiency of the workflows and is open for human mistakes that cause further problems.

  2. Add fulfilment, Public and Internal Notes to the Excel spreadsheets for physical item sets

    When a Physical Item set of records is exported into a spreadsheet via Tools > Excel, the fields Fulfilment Note, Public Note and Internal Notes 1, 2 and 3 are noticeably absent from the columns of data offered in that spreadsheet.

    Those fields frequently play a major role in determining the action required by staff for the given item upon its return, as they’re used for requests for reclassification, relegation, etc. It would constitute a sizeable labour-saving fix to be able to generate/save/print off a ready list of all such messages, alphabetically sortable by contents, from the spreadsheet for staff…

  3. Configuring Physical Item Sort Routine for Alternative Call Number

    We have large volumes of items that are at the same location but at a different call number. All of these items migrated on to one holdings which means the Alternative Call Number is key in determining the correct call number. Are there any plans to add Alternative Call Number field to the physical item sort routine?

  4. "Create Physical Item Work Order" job - adding notes.

    I would like to be able to include a note when bulk creating physical item work orders.

    Notes can be added to individual work orders, but the ‘Create physical item work orders’ job doesn’t allow this – only the work order type, managing department, and pick/do not pick from shelf can be specified.

    The use case is that we are correcting some of our call numbers, and the physical items will need to be relabeled. I would like those items currently on loan/in transit/in process to have work orders that send them to our repair department for relabeling when returned,…

  5. Change Holdings area to match Items

    Editing Holdings requires knowing all of the codes for your institution's locations and libraries. If the Holdings area were more like the Items area then the choices for locations and libraries would be on pull down menus. A History tab similar to the one on the Items screen would also be helpful.

  6. Moving item records should have a better way of refreshing the list of items

    When item records are moved from one location to another the move will be made and the list of items will refresh but then leave all of the items moved still on the page. From here there is no good option to refresh the page and continue working and moving item records. Using the Alma back button takes you back to the bib record where you have to reenter the the list of items.   7. Check for existing barcode in import profile

    I would like to see a setting in the import profile to check the IZ for the pre-existence of the incoming barcode. Publishing and importing can be a fairly blunt tool that leads either to too many or too few objects being imported. When importing large numbers of records, there should be a setting in the match tab that looks for that barcode and rejects the item if that barcode already exists. This would prevent needless duplication especially when publishing on the bib level.

  8. Ability to change item's Material Type while in process

    We would like the ability to change an item's Material Type while the item is in process. Currently, Alma does not allow this unless the item is in place. If the item is in process, we get the error message, "The item is not in place and there are requests registered for this item. Please handle the requests before moving or updating this item." Incorrect material type is part of the reason the item was sent to processing, so it seems strange the change cannot be made while the item is there.

  10. Run a "change temporary location indications" job

    This functionnality is currently available only with the "change physical item" that allows change for all item indications. Such a new job would help all librarians to change temporary locations for a set of documents avoiding the risk of errors in other item fields. With that new option, it would be possible to keep the "change physical item" job only available to ILS manager and let all librarians run the "change temporary location indications"

  11. Enable the ability to make an item missing that has a process type

    In order to mark an item 'missing' it currently has to have a status of 'item in place'. However, many items that have a status of 'item not in place' need to be marked as missing. If an item gets lost in transit from one library to another or has a process type of technical migration and cannot be found, those items need to be marked as missing.

  12. Add a new Analytics element Call number prefix

    It's found that there is currently not the element Call number prefix in Design Analytics. But in our library, we use call number prefix to identify different shelving locations. And the call number prefix is entered neatly in 852 $k of holdings record. Please add this Call number prefix element to Design analytics. Thank you. Please refer to SF 00654880.

  13. Temporary Location should include Temporary Item Policy

    When we pull a volume from the Stacks and put it on the Reserves shelves, we want to change the Item Policy from the Stacks default to a much shorter loan period. When we restore the item to the Stacks we want to restore the Item Policy to what it was. As it is, we have to know what the former policy was for each item and break a large batch of items coming off reserve into multiple files for each Item Policy that is wanted.

  14. Change Physical Item Job should ignore default MARC holdings template when changing location

    Also entered as NERS ID 5949 for Next year's enhancement process cycle

    When using the Change Physical Items job to change an item's location, we are running into problems because of the way Alma processes this job. Alma creates a new holding with the same data as the original holding and reattaches the items to this new holdings record. If all items are changed to the new location, the original holding is deleted. When creating the new holding, Alma uses the default MARC holding template.   15. Allow user to specify "Do not pick from shelf" when using the Add Physical Item workflow

    When you create an item for loan as part of the circulation desk workflow (via Fulfillment > Manage Patron Services > Create Item and choosing New), an Acquisition Technical Services work order is created, and Alma assumes (correctly) that the item is in hand.

    When you use the manual item creation process (via Resources > Add Physical Item and choosing New), Alma creates a work order without asking if the item is in hand, and assumes (incorrectly) that the item needs to be picked from the shelf.

  17. Change Chronology J numerical values into names of months or seasons in Description field in Physical Item Editor

    For the purpose of sorting months in Chronology J, we have to put numerical values in it, for example 05 for May. However, when we generate the Description, 05 would remain 05, so the description would be: v.12 no.5(2019:05). This is printed onto our label for the students to read. It would be better if Alma can automatically convert the numbers into words in the Description field, e.g. v.12 no.5 (2019:May) through the Generate button. Similarly, for seasons in Chronology J, the numerical values are from 21-24. We want Alma to automatically convert the numbers into names of seasons, e.g.…

    It would be great to alter the material type of items whilst they item is still on loan, so that an item with a material type of "none" could become a book.

  19. Include item creation date in the advanced search options for item records

    We have been trying to monitor progress in retrospective cataloguing projects using the advanced search, but run into some problems with options for searching in item records.

    We can quite accurately produce sets for items which were last updated within a given date range, but this isn't really fit for purpose. If a cataloguer makes a correction or re-saves at a later date then this will exclude it from retrospective counts, say for the previous month or year.

    Having the option to search on item record creation date would provide a much more accurate tool for reporting on work done…

  20. Moving item records to differenent holding records and merging holding records

    Being able to merge holdings records that have been accidentally created. Either that, or moving item records to different holding records, even if the holding records are in the same location, but different call numbers.
