  1. Option to hide libraries from Alma persistent search indexes

We do not make use of the institution-level Resource Sharing Library for anything at all (our physical library locations are all resource sharing libraries and are all we use for res share purposes), and so it would be great if we didn't have to see the out of the box RSL in the libraries drop down menu in Alma when doing searches.

Options to hide any items we don't make use of in general in Alma search indexes / other menus would be great, as it would declutter the interface and be less confusing for staff.

  2. Make accession numbers in configuration editable

In the Accession Configuration it is only possible to change the next sequence number. Not the sequence name, the library or the location. For example, when you want to add a library or change the library, you have to delete the row and enter the prefix again - with the correct sequence number. Because of the closure of our Central Library we had to delete nearly every single entry and make new entries for each prefix.

  3. Allow the ability to withdraw an item when holding is associated with an Active PO Line

Library staff need the ability to delete-withdraw items from holdings that are associated with active PO lines when the item has been replaced by a newer year. This activity is typical when a library retains only the current year's issues or the latest volume of a serial.

At present, in order to withdraw these items, the staff member must move the items to a secondary holding record that is not linked to the active PO line, which adds unnecessary work to a simple withdrawal task.

According to a Knowledge Article on the topic https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Alma/Knowledge_Articles/Withdraw_an_Item_with_an_Attached_Purchase_Order_Line, it is currently only possible…

  4. Improve Job "Change Physical items information" parameter "Item call number"

Our "Item call number" are made up of two parts, one alphabetical and the other numerical. We need to be able to modify the alphabetic part in a group of items, and keep the numerical part exactly the same.

  5. Work orders: unnecessary message "cancel requests" when moving an item with work order

When moving an item that has a work order from a location to another, the cataloguer receives a message "The item is in work order, moving the item will cancel the requests if the item is not requestable in the new location". Most of these messages are not pertinent, and we ask for the possibility to adjust it, so that it only appears when really necessary. It confuses cautious employees who are afraid of unintentionally deleting markers, or it is hardly noticed because too often wrong.

  6. Add 'loan date' to items list

after 6 long years, finally "due date" as added to items list..

"Loan date" field is as important to see, as the "due date". if we have 50 items which were loaned in different times, most of them can have the same due date (because we have periods of closed days-holydays). we have to be able to make the same decision, as system, regarding, which item can be recalled first, if we need to make manual request on specific item.
please consider adding this field also - and really hope it wouldn't take another 6 years

  7. slip for items sent to binding - improvements

    1. we send to binding not only periodical issues that are bound together. we also send individual periodical volumes/books which binding wears out. in this case there is no option to add a note for the binder - options which exists when 2 or more issues are bound together in alma.

    2. we send to binding hundreds of items. printing out hundreds of slips, when a slip takes up the whole page - is a waste of paper. so we stuck with continuing writing the info for the binder manually, on small pieces of paper. it would be a large improvement to…

  8. "in process items" screen - circulation desk management: adding fields

At circ desk we use "in process items" screen to manage items in circ work order processes. Unfortunately the screen is unusable, if we are processing periodicals which are sent/recieved from binding: currently there is no way to distinguish at a glance which volume it is. as we send several volumes of the same periodical at once and our physical copies of periodicals don't have barcodes/barcode numbers. so please add a description field to this screen.
another field that is necessary is: Location

yes we can see this information via 3 dots...but it is not at a glance....

  9. Maintain membership to physical collections when merging bibliographic records

Currently in the MD Editor, when merging bibliographic records, if the non-surviving bib record was included in a collection the membership to the collection is lost. The problem is made worse by the fact that operator will probably be made aware of the matching duplicate record at the point of saving the bib; at this stage only the duplicate bib record is displayed, there is no indication that it has been included as part of a collection.

The bibliographic merging process in the MD Editor should be improved to take account of records included in physical collections, transferring membership of…

  10. Add Description Field and Generate Button to ENUM/CHRON Tab in Item Record

It would be helpful to have the description field and generate button on the ENUM/CHRON tab in the item record. If someone is utilizing multiple enum/chron fields, beyond what's available in the General tab, they have to switch tabs to edit those fields and then switch back to generate the description (manually or through description templates and the generate button).

Alternatively, more enum/chron fields could be made available on the general tab. Possibilities include:
    an expandable enum/chron section which by default shows only the first 2 of each (like what is currently available);
a customizable option that would allow institutions…

  11. add "None" to Process Type facet for Physical Items search

When you do a Physical Items search in Alma, there is a facet for Process type. You can narrow the results of the search by Acquisition, Loan, Missing, Transit, etc. But you can't narrow the results to items without a process type. Adding "None" to the list of process types would solve that problem.

  12. Allow import profiles to create items under existing holdings

Add an option in Alma import profiles to add item to existing holdings, when there is only one holdings on a bib. When there are multiple holdings already on the bib record, allow user to specify that the item should be added to the holdings that matches the library and location mapping specified. Or, allow it to look and match on holdings that match data mapped from the incoming bib record. And then, the fallback is if matching fails, to add a new holdings record based on information specified either in the inventory mapping or mapped from the incoming bib…

  13. Add 130 and 246 fields to brief results in Physical Titles search

We would like data from the 130 and 246 fields to display in brief results for Physical titles searches. We would want the 130 field to be labeled as "Uniform Title" and the 246 field to be labeled as "Varying Form of Title." This is useful for serials where the title in the 245 field isn't necessarily the most well-known form of the title.

  14. Avoid duplicate Item call numbers

At present, when duplicating an item, barcode is automatically generated and saved even before any changes in a duplicated item record are done. That means in practice, that if - for some reason - Item call number or any other field were not modified, duplication is created. That is a huge problem in fields that 1] require unique value, 2] there are no warnings about duplicate value in any moment of the process. Suggestion: Similar to duplicating bib record, the new barcode is created only after actual saving of the new (duplicated) item. The cataloguer will be required to generate…

  15. Ability to create multiple workorders for several items sharing the same MMS ID

Have the ability to create multiple work orders for several items sharing the same MMS ID (ex. serial with multiple volumes to pull and transfer to a different library). Currently we need to create a new a work order for each volume. This would improve workflow efficiency.

  16. Enhance Shelf Report

Shelf report is a great tool but only searches for items based on permanent location and not their current/temporary location. As a result, items that are on display will display exactly as if they are missing and scanning a display shelf shows that the items were scanned but do not belong in that location, the same status as if an item from the traditional shelving was placed on the display shelf.

Additionally, it was previously posted (June 28, 2022) that it would be useful to be able to select multiple locations when performing a shelf report. It was commented that…

  17. Apply different Physical Item Sort Routines to different material types

It would be useful to to apply a different sort routine to different item formats. So for example, we'd prefer books to sort by description ascending, but journals to sort by description descending.

  18. Customize the amount of holdings displayed in the brief results

Currently, only 5 holdings are displayed in the "Physical" tab in the brief results list in Alma. For IZs with many libraries, this is not always ideal and many clicks are necessary before getting to the complete list of holdings.
The new sortlibraryby_relevance parameter helps but doesn't solve all issues.
Therefore, we'd like to ask to implement a functionality similar to what can be done for the amount of records to be displayed in the results list (at the moment, one can choose between 10/20/50) so that for example staff users can choose whether they want to see…

  19. Related holdings displayed only after "direct" holdings in the brief results

Currently, only 5 holdings are displayed in the "Physical" tab in the brief results list in Alma. In many cases holdings and "related" holdings are mixed and displayed without any particular ranking. Especially when many of them are present, it takes many clicks before one can exclude the related holdings and obtain a list of all holdings linked directly to a record.
The "Physical" tab in Alma could be changed like this: all holdings linked directly to the record are displayed first (regardless of the library), and only then come the holdings of related records.

  20. Allow the use of comma for decimal separator in item replacement cost.

    Hello,

Instead of using a decimal point for the decimal separator, the Brazilian real have a comma. The thousands separator for Brazilian money is the period.

Alma does not allow the use of comma as a decimal separator in item replacement cost. This is causing several problems to us, as this field had comma in it from our previous system (Aleph), and every time we need to update an item record the system gives an "Item replacement cost must be a number" error. Also, it seems that any Analytics report that includes the field results in an SQL error.

    Regards,
