Lists of Name Authorities similar Subject Authorities
Lists of Name Authorities similar Subject Authorities
When cataloging a bibliographic record, Alma allows selecting different lists of Subject Authorities (LC, UC or UANDES, etc.). In the case of the Name Authorities, it currently only allows the use of a list of Name Authorities. We propose that the authorities of name are handled in the same way as the Matter Authorities.// Al momento de catalogar un registro bibliográfico, Alma
permite seleccionar distintos listados de Autoridades de Materia (LC, UC o UANDES, etc.). En el caso de las Autoridades de Nombre, actualmente sólo permite usar un listado de Autoridades de…27 votes -
Overlay representations with the same file name when a match for the bib is found.
At National Agricultural Library, we ingested about 400,000 articles into Unified Repository (UR) each year. The UR will be replaced by Alma. One urgent need that we have is to overlay not only the existing bibs with updated article metadata from publishers, but also representations with the same file name, e.g. source.xml, mods.xml using import profile for digital repository. Is it possible to overlay representations with the same file name when a match for the bib is found?

In Metadata Editor, open records by MMS id directly
It's common to have a list of MMS ids that need to be worked on in Metadata Editor. The current workflow is to do a repository search, be taken out of MDE, click "Edit Record" and wait to be slowly taken back into MDE.
It would speed things up tremendously if there was a way for users in MDE to input an MMS id and just have the record open up straight away.

Create a task that orders the 6xx (subject) fields
Alma currently does not have a way to mass resequence the 6xx subject fields, at least into consecutive order. This is an issue in analytics if subject is the field you organize your results by, as the initial subject field (600) may no longer be the first subject displayed and therefore searched on.

Authority data: first indicator in the bibliographic record
Now we have many mistakes in our bibliographic records in the settings of the first indicator by connecting with authority data (GND, IdRef, ..). It would be great to have an automatic process, which takes over the first indicator of the authority data to the bibliographic record when you select the authority heading.
What you have then is the following: First indicator, preferred term and authority identifier are taken over from the authority record to the bibliographic record by using “select” in the index view of the authority record.
It would be great, if this is implemented for 1XX/6XX/7XX in…25 votes -
Version control/history of normalization, merge, and indication rules
Alma should store the version history of normalization, merge, and indication rules - just like bibliographic metadata - in case someone makes an inadvertent edit. This would allow users to restore the rule to a previous, working state.

reorder tags / fields in metadata editor mde using drag and drop
Sometimes repeatable field must be sorted/reordered.
For example, we have records with many 505 tags that are added overtime and we have to arrange their order so that they are properly displayed in Primo.
Right now one must copy the content of the tag to move; add a tag in the proper position with indicators etc.; paste the content; delete the source tag. Quite a long and error prone procedure.
Having the chance to simply drag and drop the fields in the mde to reorder them would be therefore a great enhancement.23 votes -
In addition to LCSH, LSNAF, MeSH, GND and VIAF, Wikidata is at least an another good source to enrich the bibliographic information.
ALMA currently adds URIs of 5 authoriities sources to enrich related bibliographic records. It is a good way for patrons to "crawl from one data description to another" if we push the information to Primo. Those 5 sources are good. However, information coming from Wikidata or Wikipedia seems nowadays to be more accessible and acceptable by the users. We suggest ALMA should add URIs of Wikidata (or the like) , so the users can retrieve more information on related entities.

Authority creation - Populate 670 Source Data Found from open bib
When creating an authority by F3 searching from a bib record and clicking "Create authority record", no data is linked from the bib. Voyager populated bib information in new authorities to track and differentiate headings.
Please populate the 670 field (Source Data Found) in the new authority record with Title, date in $a and MMS ID in $w.
This would look like: 670 ##$a [245$a], [260/264$c] $w [001]

Enable case-insensitivity for indication and other rules
Indication (and other) rules in Alma are case sensitive by design. Case sensitivity of course is often desirable, to ensure most exact matching and prevent inadvertent data problems. However, in some instances, especially with indication rules, it would be very helpful and time-saving to be able to use case insensitivity, as is possible with regular expressions (ex: /i). An example of a scenario in which this would be helpful is when using an indication rule to identify records which contain a particular textual note, when that note may have been entered with varying cases: sometime all uppercase, sometimes sentence case,…

Put full 100 field information in search results
Please put the full 1XX field in the search results.
We have many people with the same or similar names which are distinguished by dates or other information from the 100 field. It would be very useful to have all the personal name information this display in the metadata editor and also to be available in the Excel download of the search results.

View actually linked bib records in 'Browse bibliographic headings'
When using the Browse bibliographic headings feature, it is not possible to diplay the list of bib records that are ACTUALLY linked to one authority. We can only see the bib records that match with the authority.
On the contrary, when using the F3 index, Alma provides an extra menu in the 'View' option of a bibliographic heading where one can choose between records that match the authority or records that are linked to the authority.
This Idea requests that the same feature be added in the Browse bib heading tool.19 votes -
Title search - index the 245 field on its own
My library catalogs most new material according to the international cataloging standard, Resource Description and Access (RDA). One requirement of RDA is that each work is given a unique access point. When cataloging a new work, our catalogers must search our database to determine if their 245 field value (subfields a, n, p) is unique. This is impossible for them to do with the out-of-the-box search fields in Alma when their title is only one or two words long because the Title field searches 38 MARC fields and over 100 subfields. In our database, a basic title search of the…

ACTL needs to be refined: Ending ISBD punctuation issue
There are many entries in ACTL that the only difference between BIB Heading Before and BIB Heading After is that the full stop is removed at the end of BIB Heading After. For example:
BIB Heading Before
Hong Kong (China). Census and Statistics Department.BIB Heading After
Hong Kong (China). Census and Statistics DepartmentThis kind of entries should be excluded from ACTL since this is not heading update at all.

Add the Thesaurus for Graphic Materials to the CZ
Please consider adding this authority vocabulary to the CZ as it is used to enhance records of graphic materials such as photographs, drawings, and other visual works.

Create a "natural language" editor to create Normalization rules
The process for creating Normalization rules is unnecessarily complex and difficult, particularly for those of us who are not familiar with Drools logic. Our previous LSP had an intuitive interface which made creating rules to change details in MARC records much less time consuming. Ex Libris would do well to create such an interface.

Allow the font to be changed/enlarged in the MD Editor
In the MD Editor it is currently impossible to change the font size or type. Could this please be changed? Catalogers expect this functionality, as both Voyager Cataloging and the OCLC Connexion client allow users to change the font size and type. Thank you for considering this request.

Navigating list of records
Would like to have a forward option when working in a list of catalog records. It's cumbersome to have to go backward to go forward to the next record in the list.

Manage Cataloger Roles at the Library Level
We would like the roles Catalog Administrator, Catalog Manager, Cataloger, and Cataloger Extended to be set at the Library level instead of the Institution level. We have special collections that we only want only some of our staff to edit. Assigning catalogers to one or more libraries is much more efficient than assigning cataloging levels to users and records.
