How can we improve Alma?

  1. Exclude operator roles from "start now" option in scheduled jobs in sandbox environment

    As of now every role that has permission to monitor jobs in production can use the "start now" option in the scheduled jobs list in the sandbox. Several operator roles have this permission, e.g. purchasing operator, resulting in an unwanted and uncontrolled run of an institutional job by library staff testing our sandbox environment.
    Therefore, we would like this permission to be restricted to manager or administrator roles. If that means, that operator roles need to be stripped of the permission to monitor jobs in production that would be fine for us. We hope that we do not have to…

  2. Option of standard clock time or military time

    The 24 hour standard clock time is more feasible for reserve/loan periods rather than military time, or at the very least incorporate both options for the user. Military time is too confusing for our student workers. We had to use a cheat sheet to convert military time to standard clock time to avoid giving incorrect information to the patrons.

  3. Usage statistics Missing Data page should have a note tab

    In the Missing Data page, we need a place to put notes in to explain all the red Missing symbols, e.g. vendor closed business, see aip and scitation together (usage statistics split in two places), zero usage, resources moved platform to another vendor, etc.

  4. "A" and "The" are not alphabetical

    When listing items, titles that begin with 'a' or 'the' (the indefinite and definite articles) should *not* be alphabetized under 'A' and 'T', respectively. They should be alphabetized based on the beginning letter of the first non-article in the title. This is *standard practice* and it is ridiculous to do otherwise.

  5. Include the item barcode as part of the data published from Alma to Primo in the AVA field to improve item search in Primo

    Request for Alma item barcode be included in the data that is published to Primo as part of the Alma publishing functionality to enable barcode searchability in the Primo keyword search. We have discovered that items migrated from our previous ILS do contain the item barcode(s) in the MARC 945 $$i and is written to the search:general field of the PNX. As such, those items are keyword searchable via their barcode in Primo. However, for items created in Alma, the item barcode is not written to the bib record and is therefore not searchable in Primo.   6. Reminder when opening hours are expiring

    When you add standard opening hourse into the Library / Institution calendar it defaults to setting the expiry for the hours 3 years ahead. This is good but it would be useful to get a reminder to move them on when it's getting close to the expiry date.

  7. Ability to select Columns exported via Tools->Excel option

    When in a view or screen with Tools option (for Excel) saving, it would be very helpful to be able to have more contol over the columns output.
    User Roles is a great example. The list does not include the ACTIVE (Y/N) option, yet it is clearly an important piece of information when comparing users or building role templates. A repository search is another example. It has 18 fields pre-selected, however this could prove much more efficient if we could select to add or remove the columns that make the most sense to us prior to saving.

  8. Access Different Desks

    If you are working on a project in acquisitions and someone comes to the desk to check out a book, the acquisitions project must be scuttled in order to switch over to fulfillment. It would be great to have access to both desks at once (perhaps on different tabs) so that involved projects don't need to be randomly scuttled.

  9. Add breadcrumb trail to staff interface

    In Alma, the information displayed often depends on the task you are working on to get there. This is a nice feature, but it would be helpful if breadcrumbs were displayed to help track how you arrived at the screen.

    This would be especially helpful to new users.

  10. Cursor auto-return to search box.

    Each Alma search involves re-clicking the search box to restart the search process. Time consumer when searching lists of items. Many websites have a feature in which the cursor auto-returns to the search box. Please add this feature.

  11. Not so much an idea more like a request

    I would love to see more keyboard shortcuts like "Alt+B" throughout the system. Like in voyager I would love to able to use keyboard instead of the mouse. It would make my workflows so much more comfortable and faster.

  12. Make Interface Admin and Usage Stats Information Usable from Alma

    It would be great if we could export username and password fields from the Administrative Information tab and Statistics Information tab located under the Vendor Interface Details page for each interface we have in Alma. As it is now, it is not possible to export this information using Analytics. We are currently required to either provide more access than is necessary for users who are tasked with collecting usage, or maintain a separate spreadsheet/database with URLs, usernames and passwords, which is an ongoing duplication of effort as these change frequently.

  13. Ideas Exchange export option

    It would be nice if we could export all the ideas from Ideas Exchange into Excel or by csv file so they can be reviewed more easy than page by page to see if an idea is already there (albeit worded differently) before voting. Since we can export our personal data from settings there is obviously some export functionality on Ideas exchange- can we have a bit more?

  14. Ajout de l'adresse de la Bibliothèque propriétaire de la demande annulée

    Concernant la lettre d'Annulation d'une demande "FulCancelRequestLetter", au lieu d'avoir l'adresse de l'Institution, nous aimerions voir apparaître les coordonnées de la bibliothèque dont dépend le document demandé.
    Cela permet à l'usager d'avoir la possibilité de contacter la bibliothèque en cas d'annulation de demande de celle-ci.

  15. Allow for greater variety in the scheduling of export invoices.

    Currently, there are only a handful of pre-defined choices for scheduling the invoice export. None of them fit the time our accounting department set aside to work with our invoices specifically. Please allow greater flexibility when selecting a time to export/import invoices, ex> 1500 hrs on Wednesdays.

  16. PO Line import report: create itemized set

    After loading bibs and orders, the report allow me to create an Itemized set of what I just loaded. I would like to use this to review POL, but under Report-PO Lines, it only creates an itemized set of Titles.

    In other words: Import profiles--[...on a profile]--History--[...on a job]--Report. Scroll down to PO Lines--[...on total PO Lines Imported. *needs an option to create an Itemized POL set.

  17. Enable different time formats for Alma interface and letters

    Currently, it's only possible to set one time format within Alma (Configuration Menu > General > General Configuration > Other Settings > system_time_format), which is used universally in the Alma interface (e.g. in patron records, in monitor jobs). A time format that's appropriate for use in the Alma interface isn't necessarily right for letters that are sent out to users. For example, we would like to set the time format for the Alma interface to 24 hour clock including seconds (H:mm:ss).   18. Automatically add text (course codes) to notes field in Alma as part of rollover

    It would be good to have the option to automatically add text - specifically course codes - to the notes field (Fulfilment -> Courses ->[SELECT COURSE] -> Manage Course Information) in Alma as part of the rollover process. By having the option to automatically add the course code to the notes field as part of the rollover, it would provide the institution with the ability to track back any useful history.

  19. Add Description to Standard Openings Hours in Calendar Management

    During implementation standard opening hours were entered with the days of the week in the description column. When users edit or add standard opening hours, the description column is not available. It would help if we could enter the day in the description column.

  20. copy opening hours between libraries

    Since many libraries within an institution have the same exceptions to regular operating hours due to holidays and institution changes, please set up a way to copy the hours AND EXCEPTIONS from one library to another.

    There are over 50 entries in the calendar management of opening hours to account for our annual changing hours with breaks, holidays, finals, intersessions, and semesters. Currently I must enter these 50+ entries for each library. Having a way to copy from one library to another would save hours of work.
