  1. Ability to see all holdings when viewing citations in a reading list

    Currently a maximum of 3 Holdings is displayed for citations in a reading list. This means operators won’t see the details of all copies the library holds if there are more than 3 types of Holding. Viewing complete information is important for operators reviewing a reading list.

    Furthermore, this default display of 3 Holdings is based on Availability therefore operators are likely to see information for materials held in lesser reference collections (these are always available!) rather than information for stock held in more popular lending collections.
    Libraries should be allowed to set their own limit.

  2. Show preview of letters before they are sent for testing purposes

    I dislike the fact that I have to create situation where a letter is sent before I can actually see what it looks like. It would be nice to see a preview after editing a letter.

  3. Provide email address information in search results of patron search

    When searching for patrons through Fulfilment>Manage Patron Services, it would be useful if the search results included the patron's email address so that library staff had a unique identifier to check against when there a multiple patrons with the same name.

  4. sound alert for task

    Sound Alerts for Pick From Shelf Requests
    Can we please have a sound alert when new "Pick from Shelf" requests arrive as we use this for Reading Room requests which need to be actioned as soon as they arrive. Sound alerts would need to optional.
    It would be good to have these available for other tasks in fulfillment such as when "holds" or "lost books" are returned and another action needs to happen

  5. Ability to add NZ-managed resources to a Reading List

    Currently, when adding items to a Reading List, we can only select items from an IZ repository search and not an NZ repository search, which is a problem for those of us with centrally-managed resources in the NZ as these are resources not located in the Alma IZ.

    One workaround might be to add a Brief Citation, but that requires more work from staff and takes away from the benefit of having centrally-managed resources.

    I’d like to see functionality added so we can add NZ-only resources to a Reading List.

  6. Move list of "loans of this session" up higher.

    When checking books out, it helps to be able to see the title pop up. Depending on the monitor, the list sometimes doesn't show up at all because it's too far down. We need to be able to see each title pop up so we can verify that we are actually checking the item out.

  7. Further define credits for patron fines

    Fines often get exported through Bursar before a patron disputes them. Our lost item replacement fees and overdue fines get funneled into different accounts. The vague description for "credit" does not give our system any way to determine which account the credit should be adjusted from. (For example: A lost item replacement fee charge ends up in our materials budget once sent to the Bursar. The majority of credits are for materials returned after they were billed, so this is our default credit account.   8. Requesting Multiple Volumes or Multiple Copies of One Title

    Alma will not allow a patron to request a second volume of a title on the same record unless the item has a description. However, as one of our catalogers explained: "Since they are part of an analyzed set, the volume number goes on the holding record, not the item record, and therefore, there needs to be two holding records."

    This is problematic for requesting analyzed sets from our off-site storage facility, which is where we get the most complaints from our patrons.

  9. Allow barcode search for a course reserve citation

    Often professors fail to come to the Library and remove their personal books from Course Reserve, leaving the Reserves supervisor with many such books and no idea to whom they belong. In Voyager, she could go into the Reserves module, scan in the barcode, and it would bring up the course, instructor, and the rest of the course's reading list, so she knew immediately whose book it was. In Alma, scanning in the barcode in Alma brings up only the brief bibliographic record. If she goes to Fulfillment/Course Reserves/Citations, all reserve items appear, and she could search by title to…

  10. Add Delete Note and Confirm option in Manage Item Returns

    At present, when the barcode of an item is scanned in on the Manage Item Returns screen and okayed, the Confirmation Message box displays any Fulfilment Note associated with the item and asks the user either to confirm the action of returning, or to cancel.

    We would like there to be a third option, "Delete Note and Confirm", whereby the fulfilment note can be deleted at the same time as the user confirms the return of the item.

    This would be a huge time-saving asset, in as much as it will save staff having to navigate into the Physical Item…

    Is it possible to help cut down on data entry within the calendar? For example, I run a 24/5 schedule (which looks like open 00:00 - 23:59). When I want to have exceptions where I reduce hours for the short time between semesters, I have to set up 2 exceptions for each day of the break which can last one to two weeks. If Monday is regularly what I wrote above, I need Monday exception #1 to be closed from 00:00 - 7:59 and Monday exception #2 to be closed from 23:00 - 23:59. This shows that my open hours…

  12. Borrowing Activity Letter

    Currently, Alma limits the borrowing activity letter to list only 100 loans.

    It would be great to have the letter list all loans without a limit.

  13. Include an item's total number of checkouts within the item record or physical item editor

    There doesn't seem to be a way to view the number of times a item has been checked out, aside from going in the item history and manually counting every transaction. Frequency of use is an important data point for catalog curation and maintenance.

    It would be ideal for the previous user list to include patrons whose accounts have been opened by scanning their barcode, not just those whose have been opened by typing in their name. The current functionality makes it non-useful for our staff

    Ability to dismiss notes/General message in rejected lending/borrowing request.

    When we recieve notes/general messages on rejected lending or borrowing request the only option is to delete the note/ general messages. If we want to keep the requests history, deleting messages/notes is not good.

  16. Configure Alma Letters to use the operator's "from" address, rather than the value stored in "addressFrom"

    This is in reference to case 00172604. It was suggested we post this here by Yaala Ariel-Joel.


    1. Go to Alma Menu -> General Configuration -> Letter Emails

    2. Select, for example, the General Assign To Letter

    3. We have configured the "addressFrom" field in this and several other letters to be the email address of one of our library departments

  17. Allow non-circulation desk service units to re-shelve items

    Right now only circulation desks can re-shelve items after they've been received. You can set up a circ desk to receive, but it would be nice if you could also set up a non-circ desk service unit to re-shelve.

  18. Set standard opening hours in advance

    If the Library decides to change the standard opening hours of the Library for the coming year you currently have to wait until the first day of new hours to be able to input them as standard hours into Alma.

    It would be nice if Alma allowed you to enter new standard opening hours in advance and to set a date in which they would come into effect. That way you wouldn't have to schedule to change them on the first day of the new hours.

    An example would be if new standard hours were decided on by Library Management…

  19. Hold active until (collection) date

    currently the time a requested book is held for a borrower does not show unless you go into the Active holds lists. It would be helpful if this was shown when the book is checked in and on the notice that automatically goes to the printer (which we put in the book until the book is collected)

  20. Provide a notice/warning on Scan In when a home delivery is blocked

    When an item requested for home delivery is scanned in and the patron is blocked, e.g. due to excessive fines, Alma silently places the item on the Hold Shelf. There is no notice to the staff user that the item was requested for home delivery and that a fulfillment process was just interrupted.

    We use home delivery exclusively for remote students that often will not be able to come in and pick up their items, so placing the item on the hold shelf will not help them.
