  1. Expand 'Bulk Change Due Dates' to disregard expired patrons and include recalled items

    Configuring Alma to deliver an exclusively off-campus service in response to the Coronavirus pandemic included the extension of due dates for us. We were thankful for the 'Bulk Change Due Dates' functionality, which we were able to use to push back the due dates of a majority of items on loan (until 1 June in the first instance for us). We encountered problems though when it came to any items borrowed by patrons whose records were due to expire before that date.   2. Identifying info of returning patron visible when scanning in items

    When items are returned/scanned in I often want to know who the borrower was for various reasons (a personal book was accidentally included and I want to contact borrower, a book was damaged and I want to contact borrower etc).

    There is currently no option to add any columns related to borrower information. So if I want to find out who just returned an item I have to: row action > edit item > history > fulfillment activities

  3. Patron services – Renew all loans

    When the number of loans is more than 50, they are displayed on several pages.
    When we want to renew all the loans, or to modify their due date, we can’t do it all at once, but page by page.
    We would like to be able to select ALL the loans, no matter how many they are, to work them on bulk.

  4. Add the option to display the Description as a Column in Alma User Accounts, in Loans and Returns

    In Loans and Returns of a User Account, the Description is only available by hovering over the title, with the hover display including the Description and Call Number, despite that Call Number also has its own column.
    We did not even realise the Description was available by hovering until submitting a case, as it is not documented.

  5. Delay between item return and item being available for loan

    Currently, you can set a reshelving time (period of hours), during which a returned item will display as awaiting shelving until xxxx. The item is however available for loan from the moment it is returned, the reshelving time is merely an indication the item may not be on the shelf. This is expected and how the feature should work.

    But can the reshelving time include an option, or can a new configuration be created, which will set the item to unavailable for a given period after return: ie an item is scanned as returned, but remains unavailable for loan for…

  6. Enable desk operators to select from a predetermined list of loan periods.

    We would like desk operators to have the option of selecting from a list of predetermined check out periods for items in certain collections.

    Boston College Libraries currently provide approximately 80 laptops to community members, which can be borrowed for a fixed loan period. For many patrons this static loan period is either too short or too long, adding some loan period choices would enable us to easily meet the needs of more patrons.

    For Short Loan Items (due time in hours)
    If for some reason the library is still open (partial opening for query) even though it is closed for Alma
    It is essential to have the option:
    Move to the end of the day

  9. Short Loan Reminder - overdue notice doesn't display due time

    The Short Loan Reminder uses the Full Overdue and Lost Loan Notification letter for the overdue reminder (sent x minutes after due time). This letter does not display the due time of loans however, and is not configurable.

  10. Loan receipt with calendar reminder event

    It was very useful to have a calendar reminder for student/staff when they received the Loan receipt. It could be an outlook calendar file, Google calendar or event.

    When an override by a manager is needed at a circulation workstation, there should be a way for the manager to override either remotely or at the workstation without the operator logging out.

  12. Provide specific details in job reports of offline circulation

    Error messages like “A later action on this item happened.” in job reports is not very helpful for the staff to understand what the problem was. Please provide more details about it.

  13. Allow Personal Delivery to be fulfilled from any library circ desk

    Scenario: When an item belonging to another library that has an active home delivery request is returned or scanned in at another library's circulation desk, the item is put in transit to the owning library for the request to be fulfilled. The home delivery request should be fulfilled from any loans desk regardless of which library the item belong to.
    We are multi campus institution with libraries 100s of kms apart. We require the personal delivery requests to be fulfilled from any of our libraries, instead having to return the items to the owning library.

  14. Patron services – sorting returned items

    When we manage item returns, we would like to be able to sort them by « Call number » in addition of having them by chronological order of return.
    When we have a lot of returns, it would gain time for our librarians to have them sorted out for reshelving.

  15. In Patron Loans tab, allow filtering of loans by status

    In the patron loan tab, we would like to be able to filter the Loan Display by status (Normal, Claimed Return, Lost, etc). Currently the only options are either "All Loans" or "Loans of this Session". If we could filter by status it would reduce confusion for desk staff and help us give accurate information to patrons inquiring about their loans.

  16. Claimed returned option for Lost items

    In our previous system, with one click we were able to change items to Claimed Returned status, no matter what their current status was. one click and it was done.
    But in Alma, for some reason, this is not possible once the item has been declared Lost. One has to go through a long and convoluted process creating a file and saving it then creating a set and saving it then running a job on the set. This involves three pages of instructional documentation and about 15 minutes of staff time every day.

  17. Lost Loan Status

    Closing a lost loan changes the item's status to missing. This means that items we know are lost will turn up on lists for missing item searches, even though we know we won't find them. Not closing the loans means that we can't purge patrons from the database, even if we know that we are not going to get back the item or be paid the replacement fee.

    It would be preferable if items retained a status of Lost even if the loan is closed, so that we can differentiate between items that are lost and items that just can't…

  18. Don't Require Clicking 'Done' to Trigger Loan Receipt Notices

    Currently, staff need to click done after checking out items to a patron to trigger loan receipts. This is an unnecessary step and should be eliminated. Instead, trigger receipts when an item is checked out, much like how returned item notices are triggered.

  19. Ability for fulfillment staff to renew patron loans from other institutions under network activity in Alma

    Our consortium would like circulation desk staff to have the ability within Alma to renew items on loan from other institutions from under a user's network activity tab (renew all and renew selected, though renew all being more helpful if both are not possible).

    Currently, only the user has access to a renewal option via their Primo VE My Library Card.

    Currently, books with a late return date are black, but I would like to display them in red. I think it is easy to understand.
