  1. Auto-assigning barcodes to a set of physical records in Alma

Currently there is no way to auto-assign barcodes to a set of physical items in Alma in order to retrieve in-house usage statistics for non-circulating material. We were informed this is possible for new items at the Acquisitions stage but not currently possible for existing material in Alma. We are requesting a new job to be run in Alma or via an import profile to auto-generate barcodes to a set off physical items in Alma for in house statistical purposes.

  2. Automatic addition of specific holdings to a Collection in Alma

Is it possible to have a particular holdings location in Alma to be automatically added to the Collections feature rather than manually adding each title? For example, anything that may be catalogued at the location John Paul II Library>>Closed Access, can they be automatically added to ‘Collections’ at the cataloguing stage without input from the cataloguer?

Currently, the only way to add them to a ‘Collection’ is to manually add it at the cataloguing stage by choosing 'View Related Data>>View Collections>>Add to Collection'. However, with multiple cataloguers in varying departments in our institution, this is an added step that may…

  3. Commitment to retain blocked by location

The commitment to retain functionality is really great for managing shared print collections, but not all physical locations should be eligible for retention commitments. For example, there are certain locations that might hold rented/leased material or material that the library cannot commit to retaining long term. Items in those locations should not present those fields. Can that be added to physical item configuration?

  4. When a specific Operator runs a Job that updates physical items, the ID of the Operator that initiated the job should be included in physica

When a specific operator runs a job to update or change physical items, that operator should be listed in the physical item's history, rather than just "System".

  5. Allow the use of comma for decimal separator in item replacement cost.

    Hello,

Instead of using a decimal point for the decimal separator, the Brazilian real have a comma. The thousands separator for Brazilian money is the period.

Alma does not allow the use of comma as a decimal separator in item replacement cost. This is causing several problems to us, as this field had comma in it from our previous system (Aleph), and every time we need to update an item record the system gives an "Item replacement cost must be a number" error. Also, it seems that any Analytics report that includes the field results in an SQL error.

    Regards,

  6. Toggle Provenance Codes for Display

I'd like to propose an enhancement that allows provenance codes to be disabled/hidden instead of exclusively being deleted when they are no longer needed.

Currently, provenance codes can't be "hidden" from selection if they are no longer needed. Once a provenance code is not used, it can only be deleted and then any items with that code previously assigned are left with a single character from the code and "not listed".

We use provenance codes to note grant-funded resources, but once the grant is used up, we'd like to remove the provenance code option so it doesn't clutter up the…

  7. Ability to create multiple workorders for several items sharing the same MMS ID

Have the ability to create multiple work orders for several items sharing the same MMS ID (ex. serial with multiple volumes to pull and transfer to a different library). Currently we need to create a new a work order for each volume. This would improve workflow efficiency.

  8. Ability to combine two or more existing items into a kit without losing POL information

If there's a way to do this, I can't find it.
What I would like to have is to take existing/previously received items (presumably with their own barcodes) and then combine them under one barcode as a kit. In theory, you can use "Bond Items" to do this, but the problem is that you effectively lose your POL receiving info (as well as all other individual item info) from the combined items. In my organization's case, this can cause an issue for the auditing department if the is a question or issue involving one of the merged items since there…

  9. Add process type (work order) and update call number to Repository Import profile

I know there are two jobs available - create physical items work order and update call number from bibliographic - that can be done with item sets.

But why not make it easier so we can do these two things with the Repository import profile?

It would be a huge timesaver if the physical mapping has these options:

    1. Assign Process type (work orders)

    2. Update holdings call number without creating new holdings record/item records when using the repository import profile.

    Thank you.

  10. Apply different Physical Item Sort Routines to different material types

It would be useful to to apply a different sort routine to different item formats. So for example, we'd prefer books to sort by description ascending, but journals to sort by description descending.

  11. Enable default "At" department selection for Process Type in Physical Item Editor

To change the Process type in the physical item editor, you have to select Process type, then the "At" dropdown. Instead of clicking on the dropdown and selecting the department, it will be much easier if there's always a default selection. Please make this possible as repetitive data entry is a pain point in the physical item editor. I know it's possible to do this in batch using an Alma job. But some staff just cannot handle or have permissions to run jobs to make item changes.

  12. Maintain membership to physical collections when merging bibliographic records

Currently in the MD Editor, when merging bibliographic records, if the non-surviving bib record was included in a collection the membership to the collection is lost. The problem is made worse by the fact that operator will probably be made aware of the matching duplicate record at the point of saving the bib; at this stage only the duplicate bib record is displayed, there is no indication that it has been included as part of a collection.

The bibliographic merging process in the MD Editor should be improved to take account of records included in physical collections, transferring membership of…

  13. Add "number of renewals" as a unit of measure for configuring maximum renewal period

Telling patrons that something can be renewed a maximum of one, three, or six times is much clearer than explaining a renewal period, and patrons are often caught off guard when a renewal goes through for fewer days than usual. Adding "number of renewals" as an option for configuring maximum renewal would greatly cut back on confusion.

  14. Add Reporting Codes and Dates to Items screen

Reporting Codes can be applied to POLs only.
Reporting codes and dates allow libraries the freedom to set codes and manage items.
For example, items can set Funds when it is no longer linked to a POLs with Change holding.
Also, missing book codes and date can be entered in case of a missing book.
Allowing Reporting codes, or some similar code, to be applied to Items would add a great deal of flexibility and utility to an already good idea.

  15. Item Statistics Notes fields - choose controlled/not controlled individually

At present it is possible to choose for all three of the Item Statistics Notes to be controlled (i.e. select field contents from a drop-down list) or for all three not to be controlled (i.e. free text).

This is restrictive and inflexible. It would be preferable to be able to choose field by field which are controlled and which are not, i.e. have some of the Statistics Notes free text and others controlled.

Allow for spine label printing direct from Alma rather than having to use a third party API. ie- Spin0Matic

  17. Allow import profiles to create items under existing holdings

Add an option in Alma import profiles to add item to existing holdings, when there is only one holdings on a bib. When there are multiple holdings already on the bib record, allow user to specify that the item should be added to the holdings that matches the library and location mapping specified. Or, allow it to look and match on holdings that match data mapped from the incoming bib record. And then, the fallback is if matching fails, to add a new holdings record based on information specified either in the inventory mapping or mapped from the incoming bib…

  18. Add 130 and 246 fields to brief results in Physical Titles search

We would like data from the 130 and 246 fields to display in brief results for Physical titles searches. We would want the 130 field to be labeled as "Uniform Title" and the 246 field to be labeled as "Varying Form of Title." This is useful for serials where the title in the 245 field isn't necessarily the most well-known form of the title.

  19. Make accession numbers in configuration editable

In the Accession Configuration it is only possible to change the next sequence number. Not the sequence name, the library or the location. For example, when you want to add a library or change the library, you have to delete the row and enter the prefix again - with the correct sequence number. Because of the closure of our Central Library we had to delete nearly every single entry and make new entries for each prefix.

  20. Option to hide libraries from Alma persistent search indexes

We do not make use of the institution-level Resource Sharing Library for anything at all (our physical library locations are all resource sharing libraries and are all we use for res share purposes), and so it would be great if we didn't have to see the out of the box RSL in the libraries drop down menu in Alma when doing searches.

Options to hide any items we don't make use of in general in Alma search indexes / other menus would be great, as it would declutter the interface and be less confusing for staff.
