  1. Overhaul Print Periodical Receiving.

We’re receiving fewer print periodicals than ever and yet the process for receiving and claiming print periodicals is more cumbersome and time-consuming than ever. Alma automatically generates a number of expected issues based on frequency with expected receipt dates even though this doesn’t reflect the reality of print periodical receiving where the receipt date may vary and issues are sometimes combined, which requires extra adjustments. If a subscription stops for some reason after expected issues have already been generated it’s necessary to remove the expected issues. Or, in the case of a publication delay, the dates for all expected issues…

  2. Physical titles results-- option to Sort by call number

Currently, a Physical titles search by call number does NOT give us the option to Sort by call number. In order to sort by call number, we have to do a Physical items search. Having the option to sort by call number (Asc or Desc) would be extremely useful. The display options for Physical titles vs. Physical items are different. If your primary search for most projects is by Physical titles, it is problematic not to have a sort option by Permanent call number.

  3. Running a report to show permalinks for physical items

I often create lists of library materials and include the permalink. This is a time consuming process where I have to search every material in Omni and copy its permalink to a spreadsheet. It would be wonderful if there was a field I could add in Analytics so I could create a list of say all the children's books with all their permalinks.

  4. Counting items without call number or call number type in Range Shelf Report

Items without call number and items with call number type being blank cannot be counted properly in Range Shelf Report.
We want to be able to produce a shelf report by multiplying only "Library" and "Location".
Is it possible to change the required item to the arbitrary item in "Range" setting ?
Because there are some items without "Call number" or "Call number type" in a Location.
And items with material type such as issue don't have "Call number".

  5. Holdings push to MDE

When a group of holdings records requires editing, it would be nice to be able to push just the holdings record to MDE in a batch (select all). As of 7/2021, you either have to view holdings and push to MDE (one by one) or push all bib records (select all) to MDE then update holdings in MDE.

  6. Allow Jobs to Accept CSV files

There are many instances where we would like to run a job like the change physical items job for a list of barcodes where the variable is not the same for each barcode. For example, I'd like to add provenance codes to a list of barcodes, but each barcode could have one of 15 different codes. So it would be great to be able to upload a CSV or TSV with two columns - one with barcode and one with the provenance code for that barcode.

  7. Click through multiple item records to view and edit

When multiple items are attached to a single holdings record, currently there does not appear to be a way to click directly from one item to the next. Instead, we must click out of each item record viewed, go back to the list, and click into an new one. Having the ability to click directly through the list would help greatly when we need to check through the items for consistency in a field, for example. Additionally, the ability to edit while clicking directly through, in case an error is discovered, would be very helpful and reduce the number of…

  8. Visible lending numbers and dates

It would be nice to immediately see the lending numbers for a book and the last lending date.
Now you have to click to open this information for each copy + you can only have the information for a single book open at a time (overview is lost)
Lending numbers and dates are used for decisoins on new purchases, replacements and general collection care.

  9. Managing Collections - more options for searching and display

In the Collection Resource Editor (Alma) - it would be really useful to have greater flexibility for searching within a collection. Can we have the option to search by MMS Id and keyword? At the moment only Title and Publisher are available.

This would be really useful when you don't know the specific title/publisher you are looking for - so you want to do a keyword search within the collection to browse. Also if you know the specific MMD id that would be useful too.

  10. Permanent Call Number in Physical Item Editor

It would be extremely useful if we could edit the permanent call number in the physical item editor the same way we can edit the permanent location. This information is an holding's element in many libraries.
Otherwise, after receiving the orders, we need to edit both the physical item and the holding after cataloging and before scanning the items to put them on the shelves.. This is tedious and prone to errors.

  11. Include affected barcodes or MMS IDs in Alma job reports

This is a suggestion to include affected barcodes or MMS IDs in Alma job reports, e.g. the Change holding information job. This is helpful for us to study what has happened, or to undo the commands. Currently there is not a way to retrieve affected barcodes in Alma or Analytics. There is a situation that the change holding information has affected the sister item records which are not included in the physical item set to run this job with. (In other words, when we first created the physical item set to run the Change holding information job, we did not…

  12. Enable the ability to make an item missing that has a process type

In order to mark an item 'missing' it currently has to have a status of 'item in place'. However, many items that have a status of 'item not in place' need to be marked as missing. If an item gets lost in transit from one library to another or has a process type of technical migration and cannot be found, those items need to be marked as missing.

The current process requires that these items be checked in so they do not have a process type before they can be made missing. This seems counter intuitive to check in an…

  13. Limit use of material types by specific library

The list of material types used across our consortium is very long. Even though we have turned off those that we don't use, we still have a list of about 65. For most of our libraries, this is overkill, as locations like our Chemistry library only use 4 or 5 at most. Catalogers have to use the full list, which increases the chance of confusion or clicking on the wrong thing for even straightforward cataloging. I want to be able to restrict the material types that can be used at any particular library. This was a feature of another ILS…

  14. Allow regex in description templates

Regex can be used in other places in Alma. Regex should be allowed in description templates to create fewer rules to manage.

I can't translate (in one single rule) all the variations of month ranges (01-02, 01-03, 01-06, 01-12, etc) from numbers to abbreviations. This means I either need dozens of rules or I have to settle for data that is not standardized.

  15. Bound-withs - use subfield $i bound with in tag 773 or 774 to separate binding from bibliographic relationships

Alma and Primo should allow institutions to designate 773 or 774 tags (whichever are used by the institution to link bound-with items) as applying to a bound-with item by using subfield $i with the relationship designator “bound with”. They may then configure Alma so that If this designator is not present, no related item linked will display in the Primo GetIt item information (although related titles may appear in the bibliographic description, if desired.

This will enable the libraries to utilize other relationship designators besides the bound-with one, with or without invoking a bound-with relationship in Primo (note that the…

  17. Automatic Designated Copy ID Number Added to New Item Records

I would like the ability to set an automatic copy ID number to designate that the item is a copy "1," instead of having to put the "1" in the copy ID field every time I add an item. Of course I would also need to have the ability to easily change the automatic "1" another copy ID number if I have a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. Voyager had this ability, which saves time when processing a large number of books. Thank you.

  18. Asterisk search with special character in Alma

Currently, Asterisk search with special character in Alma is not supported in ALma.
It would be very useful if Asterisk search with special character is supported in Alma Search.
For example, for cataloging work, Asterisk search of call number can helps librarian to determine if there is an duplicate call number. Also it can help to determine the call number following up.
But for call numbers that contains special characters, the Asterisk search is not supported and can not work as expected.

  19. Better management of serial prediction when publication frequency changes

Sometimes providers change a journal’s publication frequency throughout the year. So, the prediction’s pattern selected / elaborated at the beginning of the year doesn’t work anymore in Alma. One part of predictions (date of receipt) will be ok until the change but all other predicted items will be false. Now, we can revise the prediction during the year but we must erase the items already received. We can also leave the prediction defined at the beginning of the year and edit manually the false items from the time of the prediction change.

It would save a lot of time if…

  20. We wish that the report of withdraw items job can provide a list in the detail information

After running the withdraw items job, we hope that the job report could provide a list in detail about the relevant records (including: number of deleted holdings records, number of deleted holdings records, number of deleted holdings, number of deleted bibliographic records, number of suppressed holdings records) so that we can review the detail of the impacted records. Thank you!
