  1. Filter journal holdings that can fulfill the request for an article

If an user has found an article that is not available electronic, but the library has the journal in print, the end user gets the list of holdings for the journal and can go into a specific holding to see the items.

In general we would like that when the end user has found an article they should only need to click on Request (or Digitize) and all relevant metadata are sent to Alma and the system selects the correct item to fulfill the request. If locate is not possible the librarian has enough information to work on the request.

  2. Converting Physical item request to Digitization or Borrowing request

It would be great if we could convert a Physical item request to e.g. a Scan request or a Borrowing request.
For instance: our patron places a request in another Library from our institution ( = In transit Physical item request), but it turns out the book is damaged (-> convert to Patron digitization request) or lost and cannot be supplied. (-> convert it to a Borrowing request)

  3. Provide birthdate information in search results of patron search

When searching for patrons through Fulfilment>Manage Patron Services, it would be useful if the search results included the patron's birthdate so that library staff had a unique identifier to check against when there a multiple patrons with the same name.

  4. Booking, transit and preview time

We use the booking functionality in Alma for our Audio/Video-equipment. The equipment is administrated by our media production department, and is configured as a library in Alma.

The AV-library is the only place on campus patrons can check out and return AV-items. Apart from that, the AV-library also supports delivery to a library at a different campus (Kjeller).

    • The transit time between the AV-library and Kjeller is set to 48 hours.
    • The preview time on the equipment booking is set to one hour.

    Use case:
When scanning an item due for pick-up at Kjeller within the next 48…

  5. Prevent change of due-date when the item is under the recalled status.

Or have an alert message of some kind when the due date is being changed.
Because when the due date is changed, the recalled item reverts back to its initial status making it difficult to determine if there are requests placed on the item.

  6. Check for attachments in the Digitization Process

When managing Digitization Requests, there is no control in the last step (when files or URLs are attached) that a file or URL has effectively been attached or correctly uploaded. If operator clicks on 'Done', the request is completed without any alert!
If no file or URL has been attached when the operators clicks on Done, the requester receives a letter with no attachment or URL for download. Waste of time and bad service provided...
There should be a control before clicking on Done, at least one file or one URL should be attached before the request gets completed. At…

  7. Claimed returned option for Lost items

In our previous system, with one click we were able to change items to Claimed Returned status, no matter what their current status was. one click and it was done.
But in Alma, for some reason, this is not possible once the item has been declared Lost. One has to go through a long and convoluted process creating a file and saving it then creating a set and saving it then running a job on the set. This involves three pages of instructional documentation and about 15 minutes of staff time every day.
We often have items claimed returned when…

  9. Short Term Loans - Courtesy and Overdue Notices

The new short_loan_courtesy_reminder & short_loan_overdue_reminder cannot be configured for multiple locations. For institutions with several hourly loan locations (for example Boston College maintains 2 and 3 hour loan periods for Course Reserves and a 4 hour loan period for some technology items) this dictates that the reminder notice has to be set based on the location with the shortest loan period. The overdue notice must be timed to make sense for for the longest loan period.

In our test configuration we used the following time parameters:

    short_loan_courtesy_reminder - 105 minutes
    short_loan_overdue_reminder - 241 minutes

However, this creates a situation whereby…

  10. Fulfillment overdue popup/font color when item is returned.

It would be nice to have an overdue alert for our fulfillment staff when they check in an item that is overdue. The alert could be either a pop-up or a change in font color such as red when overdues are checked in. Sometimes reserve materials are brought to the desk a few hours late and could be caught while the patron is still standing there. If could be configurable for libraries, that may not want this function.

  11. Make Manage Fulfillment Activities the same thing as Manage Patron Services

I found this idea buried in a comments section and felt it deserved its own idea since my team keeps encountering the same problem.

    https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308173-alma/suggestions/11117682-payment-option-on-user-fines-fees-tab

Iain Gray said: "After finding a user it would be useful if when clicking on Manage Fulfillment Activities you were presented with the same screen as though you had used the Manage Patron Services screen. Instead you do not see the option to pay Fines and Fees from here and have to re-enter users details again."

I'll add that it would be great if Manage Patron Services and Manage Fulfillment Activities were the same page…

  12. View user request history

We would love to be able to view a user's request history in the Requests tab of their account. You can view Returns and Fines histories so why not Requests?
This would be very useful for students and staff! Thanks.

  13. Provide patrons notification of reasons for failure to renew a loan

Please note: this idea is not ours originally. We voted for this as an institution as part of the first round of NERS 2018, where it was Req ID 5782. I noticed that it isn't in Ideas Exchange now (or at least I don't think so).

Quoting the original description: 'We would like it to be possible to notify users when they have an item on loan that cannot be renewed, and to explain the reason to them so as to avoid confusion to patrons. Reasons may include: - because it is requested, - the patron has reached their expiry…

  14. Add support to scan in item screen to allow requests to be satisfied by items in hand

We would like to be able to directly deal with requests in the queue via way of the scan in item screen in Alma. Currently if you scan in an item to satisfy a request, and it's not part of the requesting pool then you cannot satisfy the request - even if the request is for something simple like partial digitization, and you have the item in hand. You also cannot currently satisfy requests in the queue which aren't at the head of the queue - ie ready to process at position 0.

The idea would be that at the…

  15. Improving usability of the inventory section for citations

Currently, it’s impossible to tell how ‘Digital’ and ‘Other’ inventory may be configured in the Inventory section of a citation. The green indicator shows the inventory exists but not whether it has been used for the citation.

    Digital example:
You can’t see whether a digital representation has been selected via the ‘Manage Digital Representations’ option or whether a representation is Active or Inactive. The green indicator stays green even if the representation is Inactive or if it hasn’t been selected via Manage Digital Representations.

    Other example:
You can’t see whether the Link Resolver has been disabled via Edit > Citation…

  16. Control Purchase Request Display in Primo by Material Type

Using display logic rules there is no easy way to show the Purchase Request link based on material type. We want to enable the purchase request link for ebooks, but not ejournals. I did come up with a hackey workaround by creating a GES that only does the identification of the journal and then a display logic rule to hide the purchase request if this GES is present, but there seems like there should be a better way to do this?

  17. Exact time of Due Date for the loans for hours

For cases of a loan for hours, there is no option to make the return time be earlier than the closing time of the Library.

At our university we loan for hours laptops and other materials, which users must return before closing the Circulation desks (20.30), not at the libraries closing time (23.59).

In the Advanced policy setting of due date, there is the option to include a specific time when the unit of measure is days, weeks or months, but not in hours.
We believe that it would be necessary to have this possibility to manage these loans correctly.

  18. Hold active until (collection) date

currently the time a requested book is held for a borrower does not show unless you go into the Active holds lists. It would be helpful if this was shown when the book is checked in and on the notice that automatically goes to the printer (which we put in the book until the book is collected)

  19. Fixed due date

For vacation loans, for example, we would like to be able easily to enable / disable and change a fixed due date (at the beginning of the next term), which overrides the due date determined by the loan term of use. Even better if we could apply this to selected user groups.

  20. Bulk Work Order Functions

A function that allows you to scan multiple item barcodes to create a specific type of work order on all items you scan.

This would also allow you to remove work orders in bulk.

This is a function we very much need; on Monday I had to create 140 work orders for one of our Resource Sharing services, and this took nearly an hour and a half to do. This is not feasible for us in the long term, and we very much need a rapid function for this process.

This function would, of course, need to inform the user…
