Add option of using OAuth as an authentication method
We would like to see the introduction of OAuth as a method of authentication for the Portal and mobile apps in addition to SAML and LDAPS.
OAuth provides a method for users to grant third-party access to their resources without sharing their passwords. It also provides a way to grant limited access (in scope, duration, etc.).
OAuth also offers direct handling of non-website services. OAuth has built-in support for desktop applications, mobile devices, set-top boxes, and of course websites.
We believe it may offer a solution to our issue of having to run both SAML authentication for our portal/desktop site and separately to run LDAP for the mobile version - whilst still giving us the flexibility to set varying expiry limits and the like.
We believe that this is a positive move forward and that many more clients will be moving to this authentication model - which is widely supported in the software industry.
This is now supported within the campusM app. Please log a ticket in Salesforce to explore further.
