  1. Create link for patron to report issue with Primo Central Record

This idea comes from a ticket submitted by a professor last week regarding a journal article resource that was marked as "peer reviewed" in PCI incorrectly. She reported it to us and we reported it to ExLibris, but it would seem more efficient to include a link that could report the problem directly to ExLibris for PCI content. I imagine something similar to the "report an issue" link found in google books: https://www.screencast.com/t/BdLZo2tR6D

  2. Embargoed resources displaying in Primo

Currently records from within an embargo period are discover-able to end-users via Primo.
The user then thinks we have access to the records and selects it only to be presented with No full text available.
Embargoed records are outside of our coverage range and should not display in our discovery interface.

  3. Index Item Level Information

We have entered journal contents into item records. Currently, journal contents is only searchable if the title is available electronically. We would like users to be able to retrieve contents from our physical journal holdings when searching in Primo. This information is contained in the public note field of the item record - having the option to make this searchable would be of great benefit to our users.
Public level notes can be seen in the Primo record, but they cannot be searched so users have to know what they're looking for before they look for it.

  4. HTML Language Tag customizable for Screen Readers

In order to improve the accessibility of Primo, it would be helpful if one would be able to choose country-specific language settings for screen readers by the HTML language tag. We would be interested in the language setting “de-AT” to be available to recognize the Austrian variety of the German language. This could also be interesting for a lot of other languages.

  6. Personal name (600/610/611) should be included in Browse subject of Primo VE

Currently Primo VE does not search 600/610/611 as part of a Browse subject search. That means that a patron cannot view or browse through all of the subject headings for books about “Luther, Martin” or “Morrison, Toni.” The 600/610/611 fields are searchable in Alma as “names” but not browsable in Primo VE as subjects. Leaving out personal names goes against the common expectation in library systems to find all subjects including those that describe people, companies, etc. A similar entry exists in the Alma part of Idea Exchange: https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308173-alma/suggestions/35782486-browse-by-subject-headings-to-include-600-610-611

  7. Change order of holdings for e-journals in ViewIt

Allow the institution to determine the ordering of resources in the ViewIt section of Primo. The single select options would include:
    • By Date – Ascending
    • By Date – Descending
    • Alphabetical
    • (Not sure if there are others)

Currently e-journal titles with multiple holdings are displayed in alphabetical order. When each holding has a different date range, it can be difficult to scan quickly. This would allow each institution to select what works best for their users.

  8. Primo Header is cut off at a certain Window Size

When one reduces the size of the browser window, the button for the advanced search moves into the “hidden” menu. Right before it disappears, it is cut off and can no longer be read. Furthermore horizontal scrolling is required in order to visually grasp the other menu items such as "Login" and "Menu". As far as we could check, this affects a browser window size from around 600px to 800px.

This does not depend on local CSS modifications. It is a general UX issue that affects responsive design and furthermore is breaking with the WCAG accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.1, 1.4.10, …

  9. Show the terms added to the patron's query by the linguistic features (i.e. stemming, synonyms etc.)

As default behavior, Primo not only looks for the patron's query, but enriches the original keywords of the user with additional terms, in order to improve the performance.

The system first tries to guess the language of the query, and then tries to enrich it, using a variety of steps described in the Linguistic Features section of the documentation: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Product_Documentation/Technical_Guide/120Linguistic_Features

For example, a query for the string: Birne
if recognised as German, is enriched with following synonyms (dictionary file as to March 2017):

    gluehbirne(normal),gluehlampe(normal),lampe(normal),leuchte(normal),leuchtkoerper(normal),haupt(normal),kopf(normal),ruebe(normal),schaedel(normal)

The point is that the whole thing is a blackbox for both the librarian and the…

  11. Allow admin to select in what order Resource Types are displayed

Currently the Resource Types can only be arranged alphabetically or by count (how often the type appears in search results). We would like to be able to preference certain types above others (for example, books, ebooks, articles...over things like Text Resources. So that for any search, the Resource Types are always arranged the same way and in a way that is most helpful for users.

  12. Add MODS template as Date Source for OAI-PMH harvest

Currently, there is no MODS template for OAI-PMH harvesting of external collections. As an example, we have many collections in an Islandora repository and have very rich metadata in MODS format. We lose most of that metadata when the collection is harvested because we must use the DC template as the Source format.

  13. View Primo as someone else / different types of users

View Primo as "someone else". It would be useful to view our Primo-page as different types of users. Being able to view Primo as an internal user, or a student, or staff member, or an external user, would help us troubleshoot configuration and settings in Alma. Have we activated the right functionality for the different user groups? Have we hidden what we want to hide?

tl;dr: Facebook's "View as" functionality in Primo.

  14. Display Copy ID field in Get It

Alma has a Copy ID field but it does not display in Primo in the Get It section. This value should display. It does not have to be in its own column, it could be concatenated with a label of "Copy" and show in the Description column. This was possible in the Aleph/Primo configuration.

  15. Better Primo VE Menu Link Options

Custom menu links in Primo open in a new tabbed window. This is bad behavior. If I go back to the original screen and press the button again, it opens up another window in another tab, and so on.

    Desired Behavior:
Menu link goes to address -- does not open a new window or tab. At the very least, it should have be an option for developers. Currently it is hard-coded in the html and not changeable. Using it leads to cluttered browsers.

  16. Show e-collections activated in the NZ in the Database Search of IZs

In our network we activate certain Open Access e-resources in the Network Zone. These e-collections are activated for every IZ without restriction. Some of our Institution Zones are using the Database Search to allow Patrons to search for their e-collections. Unfortunately, the Database Search is showing only e-collections that are activated and have inventory in the IZ. It does not show any of the Network Zone e-collections.

We would like to have the option to include the Network zone activated e-collections in the Database Search of the IZs.

  17. Put useful data into the RSS feeds created by Primo

Technically RSS feeds created by Primo are working. But from a content perspective the feed is a mess.

Let's start with the feed header:

The standard specification are at http://www.rssboard.org/rss-specification . It was published in August 2002. The RSS 2.0 specification is copyrighted by Harvard University and is frozen. Please use RFC 4287 also known as Atom.

It is simply the better option for may reasons.
    http://www.intertwingly.net/wiki/pie/Rss20AndAtom10Compared

The description of the feed is <title>Records from Primo</title> .
As a user I would like to see my search terms in the feed title - like in…

  18. Primo Back Office: In a consortial environment, Ability to localize Alma collections to a specific instance of Primo

    Hello.

Our university system is in a consortial configuration of Alma and Primo Back Office.

Currently, we cannot use Alma collections because one university's (local and institution-specific) collections display in all other Primo instances in our consortia. This is problematic and confusing because a collection at University A displays in University B's Primo as if it were University B's collection. But the collection is local and specific to University A only.

The "collections" I'm talking about are described in the following Exlibris documentation: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Alma/Product_Documentation/010Alma_Online_Help_(English)/040Resource_Management/050Inventory/050Managing_Collections
    https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Product_Documentation/060Back_Office_Guide/060Configuring_Primo%E2%80%99s_Front_End/050Collection_Discovery

We opened Salesforce cases 00636941 and 00708998 and were told by the Exlibris analysts that…

  19. Enhance DC XML normalization routines for external sources (PrimoVE)

In Primo Back Office, there is 86 inbuilt transformational routines for MARC21 and Dublin Core data normalization (e.g. “Take first words”, “Get highest number and normalize last digit”, and “Remove HTML tags”). Most have been translated for MARC21 in PrimoVE by various people but, because of limited regex and Xpath functionality, few have been translated into Dublin Core XML normalization routines for PimoVE.

We would like to see the implementation of full regex and/or XPath / XQuery functionality (or similar) to allow all Back Office normalization routines to be created for PrimoVE.

  20. Option to create additional links for records from external data sources in Primo VE

At time, in Primo VE, it is only possible to create a link to the resource and a link to the thumbnail in the Import Profile for external data sources. In Primo with a BO, however, it is possible to create nearly as many links in the PNX links section as you like. We use these links a lot for the records of our many different data sources, e.g. create links to an abstract or tables of content, links to related titles, and many mores. These links help to enrich metadata and are user friendly. Therefore, we suggest that in…
