  1. Inform users when wildcard limit has been reached for local records (when still displaying CDI results)

    Based on Salesforce case 06390632.

When using wildcards in a Primo search, there is a limit to how many you can use before the search triggers an error that excludes all local records.

    https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Knowledge_Articles/Long_combinations_of_Boolean_operators_and_truncated_terms_(wildcards)_return_0_results

This limit is only for local records. The CDI search does not follow the same limitations and will still gather results even if this limit is reached.

If a users crosses the wildcard threshold when searcing in a scope containing only local records, there will be an error message displayed that explains why no results were found. However, if the same search is done in a…

  2. Primo Name/Title Browse Searches

    Primo Name/Title Browse Searches

As frequent Primo users searching for known music items, the Alma Music Users Group would like to propose that Ex Libris create a left-anchored browse search for name/title entries found in bibliographic records. An alphabetical left-anchored browse search is particularly helpful for known-item searches that are often used for music materials and prolific literary authors.

Currently, Primo provides browse search options for names (name portion only ($a,$q,$d)) and name/title headings used as subjects. For prolific authors, it is not unusual to find thousands of name/title headings lumped under the composers or authors name, with “20+ records”…

  3. Allow patrons to order a specific item in a fulfillment network

    Hi

We are in a consortium with a fulfillment network.

Which in many cases means that the patrons can not pick which copy of a book they want to order.

While this may make sense as the default (1), it is frustrating for many patrons, myself included.

    • When more than one copy is available, I want to be able to decide which one to get
    • When a book is on loan I may prefer to wait for the copy of my favorite library to come back instead of getting the book from somewhere else

This is especially relevant when I'm…

  4. Preference of links from link resolver over link in record in brief results for merged records

When one or more of the records in a merged group is coming from a collection using the link resolver, and other records are coming from collections using the link in the record, the link in record type of link is always displayed in the brief result list. It should be possible to choose to always display a link resolver type of link instead.

  5. Collection Discovery: "new" pagination method instead of endless scrolling

Already some time ago (May 2021 Release) Ex Libris has rolled out the "new" pagination method: users can now specify whether to display 10, 25, or 50 results per page.

This works also in the "Database Search" and the "Journal Search" but not in the "Collection Discovery" section of Primo.
"Collection Discovery" still provides the old endless scrolling method (Button "Load More Results") where you quickly run into brower performance problems if a collection contains my items.

Please make the "new" pagination method also availalbe in the "Collection Discovery" area.
    Thank you in advance!

  6. Show amount of records of a Discover Import Profile

In Alma it's not possible to use the adv search bar/jobs/analytics to list records from external data sources. We can see the records loaded in the History option of each profile execution. But to have a total, we would need to open one by one.

Could it be possible to have the amount of records and MMS IDs of each discovery import profile available to see?

For example, in the same menu list where we see the History, Reload and Delete, etc, add an option called: Total and when we click on it Alma searches for all records of the…

  7. Make ILL requests a Send To action in Primo records

Add ILL Request to the cluster of Send to actions in the Primo record full display. This would send the citation to the institution's ILL form so a user could place a request for an item. This feature would give institutions the option of providing ILL services as a constant in records instead of being facilitated through services tweaked through a series of display logic rules which don't always produce desired results. For example, sometimes CDI records match to print serial holdings that don't actually contain the article. Sometimes the online source is missing the item or malfunctioning. With the…

  8. Give Us Feedback: control on which page the icon is displayed

We would like to control on which page the new "Give Us Feedback" tool icon (May 2022 release) is displayed.
We are using this tool only for reporting broken links. We need the icon only on the Full View of the search results, but currently, it must be displayed on all pages.
Actually, most of the feedbacks from our users have been sent by accidentally clicking the icon on the Brief View of the search results, Primo VE home page, etc.
So, it would be helpful if we could control on which page the icon is displayed.
    Please support this…

  9. Signed in user should be able to set their preferred search profile

We have decided to place the Library catalog search profile first in the search box as this is what most of our users need. However, some of our users find this irritating and request for the All or International articles option to be put first. This is obviously a choice that's always going to make somebody unhappy!

To get around this issue, we suggest that a signed-in user should be able to set their own preferences as to which search profile comes first in the search box.

  10. Pre-filter for Primo database search

Please add pre-filters to the Primo database search to allow users to filter their results prior to performing a search (as it is possible for a general Primo search).

This would be very helpful for e.g. database types (bibliographies, dictonaries, subject gateways, reference works, etc.) or other database indicators like "Open Access", "Full Text database", "Database supports OpenURL", etc.

It should be possible to use these pre-filters in combination with all database search options:
    - search for a keyword
    - A to Z index search
    - Category search
and choosen pre-filters should remain for the session (like the "sticky" facets),…

  12. Primo VE: Allow users to select false options when requesting items to another campus

Due to the set up of rules within our system, students are able to request books to any campus they want to except their home campus (as it is available to pick up).
When they don't see their campus as an option, they will send the book to another campus, see that it has arrived, and then turn up at the wring site expecting the item.

We're proposing a setting in which the student would be able to select their own campus, but then receive an error message when they try to process it explaining why they can't and what…

  13. Show last edit date in Manage Customization Package tab for Primo VE View

Currently, the manage customization tab shows no information about when the package was last updated. I suggest adding information in the display area that shows "Package last updated: YYYY-MM-DD," preferably with the user's id.

  14. Generic Field in Resource Sharing Request Form

We use the ILL request form in Primo VE and use the Generic Field to get users to confirm they've checked whether the resource is in stock. This is working well but now for every request it includes the text from the field "Please tick to confirm you have checked Library Search - we will not buy items that are already available.:true" in the note and request note field on the borrowing request. This makes it hard to see specific notes.

We'd like to have the option to stop the generic field text being copied to the fields.

  15. Improve Related Titles hypertext linking and advanced search

As a user, I want advanced searches that are generated by clicking a related title hyperlink to use existing metadata as search parameters in order to accurately narrow the results to relevant records.

As currently implemented, the hyperlinks for related titles either takes the user to a locally held version of the record or generates an advanced search based on the title alone.

When a user clicks a link for a related title named "Berg, Jeremy M. (Jeremy Mark), 1958- Biochemistry. 5th ed. New York : W.H. Freeman, ©2002" they are taken to an Advanced Search for Biochemistry.

    This search…

  16. Allow creating "NonFullText" electronic collections (as the "getCitedJournal" in SFX).

We would like Primo VE to allow creating "NonFullText" electronic collections, following the SFX model where the "getCitedJournal" service type exists.

This would allow managing lists of notes and/or service access urls, complementary to the other FullText collections.

Currently it is not possible to do these loads without confusing users in the results view, since when treating it as full text objects it shows them as "Available online".

This option would be complementary and more flexible than the "General electronic services", which are very limited since it does not allow adding particular notes and the URL must be homogeneous.

  17. Include available NZ e-inventory within IZ Alma/Primo VE browse indexes

For consortia with Network Zones, the centralized management of electronic resources is an integral function of the NZ. However, the Alma Browse Bibliographic Headings functionality used for the Primo VE Browse Search indexes omits e-resources available to an institution via the NZ.

Within the Metadata Editor, staff can select either 'Institution' or 'Network' when using the Browse Bibliographic Headings function. Selecting 'Institution' includes records from the IZ level, which omits anything where electronic access has been distributed to that institution from the NZ. Selecting 'Network' includes all records from the NZ level, regardless of the institution's physical holdings or electronic…

  18. Make databases categories field distinguished by institution also for searching

In consortial environment, if the label of a database category assigned in IZ A for a database AAA is the same in IZ B but for another database BBB, this database BBB is also found in IZ A.
Using different local extensions per each IZ doesn't help.
As categories usually are defined with generic names that are used in several IZs, this funtionality is not usable as is in consortial environment.

  19. Make both the label and the code from the controlled vocabulary registry searchable

When adding a controlled vocabulary to the registry and afterwards connecting it to a certain MARC field in Primo VE, patrons now can only search using the code and not the label.

As an example imagine a controlled vocabulary with the entry ECON (code) and Economy and Finance (label). If ECON (the code) is stored in the record and the patron searches for Economy and Finance in that field (in advanced filter), he or she will get no results. If you search for ECON however all relevant records will be returned.
Of course the patrons are not supposed to know…

  20. Journal coverage: show more label if there is more than one embargo

Since November 2021 journal coverage is shown in brief results (https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Release_Notes/002Primo_VE/2021/010Primo_VE_2021_Release_Notes#Show_Journal_Coverage_Dates_in_Brief_Results_and_Journal_Search_).
This is very good, but there is one rule that is not the best solution. It is stated: "Coverage information may include a single embargo, and if multiple embargoes exist, only one of them will appear in the coverage."
Now, embargoes of different portfolios may contradict each other. So, if the user only see the first one, he may erraneously believe he has no access. Therefore, as soon as there is more than one embargo, the more label should get added to the journal coverage in the…
