Ability to Relink Holdings of In Process Items
I would like the ability to relink holdings for items that are in process. When preparing a new item in Alma, sometimes I need to relink a holding to a different bib record. Currently, Alma does not allow this unless the item is in place and gives the error message “The item is not in place and there are requests registered for this item. Please handle the requests before {0} this item.” I would like to attach the holdings to the correct bib record before putting the item in place. It would be helpful if Alma allowed relinking to occur earlier in the workflow.
As of Alma December release you can re-link holdings to a different bib, even if there are some item requests on this bib.
For More information please see Alma December Release Notes

What is the timeline on this?

We have, as have other contributors to Alma-L, experienced problems with moving items and holdings without requests from a duplicate or order record TO a record that has items with requests.
While the fix in the forthcoming release is very welcome, could you please clarify if this issue will be resolved? This is very frustrating and requests on a target record should not affect moving holdings and items to this record.

December release will include the ability to re-link items from one bib record to another including requests, work orders etc'
When trying to move a holding from one bib record to another and the items of the holdings will have requests etc', operators will be advised to re-link the items to a different bib which will take care of moving the requests etc and operators won't need to deal with the request manually as they do today.

Could I perhaps push ExLibris for clarification on the points I raised below a few weeks ago, please? Our institution very much needs to be certain on the precise scope of the change to be made as ExLibris sees it. Thanks in advance.

Could I perhaps ask ExLibris whether this development work on the relinking of items extends to permitting the relinking of requested items to a new bibliographic record? Our institution strongly believes that it should.
For clarity’s sake: if the item line for a requested item has been attached to the wrong bibliographic record (for example, a record for an earlier edition of the same title), the presence of the request currently prevents that item from being relinked to the correct bibliographic record.
Items that have multiple requests associated with them therefore spend a long time associated with the wrong record; and cancellation, followed by reinstating, of all requests in order to facilitate a relink is not easily achievable (notice reports have to be disabled, request queues have to be rebuilt in the correct order, etc.).
It should be possible to relink items that have requests attached and this should not cancel the requests (with an option to move the requests with the item or stay with the original bib record).
Thanks in advance for confirmation either way.

This is particularly frustrating when working on an item that was specifically put into a workflow and sent to Cataloging to have the location changed (or something similar), and Alma will not allow you to make the change because the item is out of place or has a "request" -- steps necessary in Alma to GET IT TO CATALOGING.
